The Language Center of the College of Liberal Arts at National Taiwan University was established in 1983 to provide trainings in Chinese and foreign languages and to promote international exchange and collaboration among language scholars and students. At present there are two divisions under the NTU Language Center: The Chinese Language Division (CLD) and the Foreign Languages Division (FLD).
The Foreign Language Division offered English courses for public, the staff in the NTU, the civil servants and teachers in schools. Now, they offer not only English trainings, but also those of Japanese, European languages, Chinese-English translation and Interpretation and the courses on weekends.
The Chinese Language Division, in the beginning, aimed for help NTU international students in their studies and research. Regards to the growing needs of Chinese learning all over the world, the CLD has offered Chinese language courses to the public since October in 1999. Besides, they still help to offer the Chinese language courses to NTU international students, turning the course into part of the NTU official credit courses. The CLD even broadened the scope of the course; currently, they have General Chinese Language Courses, Enhancing Course, and Applied Chinese Courses. Aside from that, they also have Chinese Language Program and Chinese Teacher Training Program, which both earned great reputation.
